SYDNEY’S FINEST  AND MOST AUTHENTIC INDIAN RESTAURANT
Situated on the waterfront of Sydney’s Darling Harbour,  the elegant and unique Zaaffran was established in 1998 with one simple aim ‘to serve authentic, homestyle Indian cooking, just like Indian mums would make’.

Chef/Partner Vikrant Kapoor says 'Indian Mums make nutritious dishes, with robust flavours and rustic undertones. At Zaaffran we serve similar cuisine but we ensure that the flavours are well-balanced and that the presentation is contemporary. We believe that food should not only please the palate but also the eyes.'

Subsequently, Zaaffran's mission took shape - to prove that Indian cuisine can be as subtle and finely balanced as any of the world's greatest cuisines.

Vikrant says 'We chose the name Zaaffran (meaning saffron), because it is the world's most valuable spice. (Zaaffran may also be spelt as zafran, zaaffron, zaffron, zaafron, zafron, zaffran, zaafran). Our menu, which changes frequently, does have some traditional favourites but our emphasis is on rare and treasured recipes gleaned from royal households, not from commercial kitchens.'

AWARD WINNING STYLE
Since its inception in 1998, the award-winning Zaaffran has been universally acclaimed as the Best Indian restaurant in Sydney by food writers from all over the world.

WINNER OF BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT AWARD
Zaaffran has won the Best Indian Restaurant in Sydney award 3 years in a row. Zaaffran has also been a finalist for the Best Indian Restaurant award for 7 years in succession.

STUNNING VIEWS
Located on the shores of Sydney’s popular waterfront in the Harbourside Centre in Darling Harbour, Zaaffran provides guests with a choice of dining outside on the balcony al fresco, or inside, where the views are equally as stunning.

NSW laws do not permit indoor smoking. Therefore, diners may smoke on the balcony only.

FINE DINING
Zaaffran’s authentic Indian menu makes fine dining affordable.
Zaaffran’s menu  reflects Indian regional cuisine in all its diversity, whilst avoiding stereotypical repetition of dishes.

"...good news for Australians (who mistakenly believe) that all Indian meals end with tongues on fire and eyes streaming with tears."
Sovereign Magazine (India)

“This is creative, modern Indian food by cooks who treat the cuisine with reverence and respect. Head chef Vikrant Kapoor was formerly chef de cuisine at the Tiffin Room in Singapore’s illustrious Raffles Hotel, so you know standards are high. Even better, this Indian restaurant comes with a view; a wide balcony has alfresco tables overlooking a sweep of the Harbour. Inside, the dining room is slick and modern, although the mood remains decidedly casual.”

THE FINEST FRESH SEAFOOD AND AUSTRALIA PRODUCE
Zaaffran’s kitchen utilises exotic Indian herbs and spices with  Australian produce and the freshest seafood.

"...every single dish is a treat...authentic yes, but also innovative...homestyle cooking, the kind our mothers and wives make...exotic flourishes...yet never straying far from Indian tradition..."
Times of India, New Delhi - Vinod Advani

WINNING WINES  AND GREAT SERVICE COMPLEMENT YOUR INDIAN FEAST
Most diners are of the opinion that only beer goes well with Indian cuisine.  Zaaffran has boldly put this myth to rest.  Wine consultant Anders Josephson provides wines and gives friendly advice. Our wine sommelier’s selections and recommendations have won constant praise.

"...a refined Indian dining experience that comes with  the ambience, the wine cellar and the service one would normally associate with a fine French restaurant... a wide-ranging, impressive (wine) list supported by good advice."
Sydney Morning Herald - Good Living
